Product Line:
All UPS Models
Environment:
All Three Phase and Single Phase UPS Models
Cause / Resolution:
Most APC batteries should last three to five years. There are many factors which affect Battery life including environment and number of discharges. Below are some guidelines to ensure optimum life expectancy:
1. Operating Temperature: The optimum operating temperature for a lead-acid battery is 20-25° C (68-77° F). Elevated temperature reduces longevity. As a guideline, every 8° C (15° F) rise in temperature will cut the battery life in half. A battery which would last for 4 years at 25° C (77° F), will only be good for 2 years if operated at 33° C (95° F). Keep in mind that the battery temperature inside your UPS will always be warmer than the ambient temperature of the location where the UPS is installed.
2. Battery Calibration and Deep Discharge: Only perform runtime calibrations on your UPS one or two times a year, if necessary. Some of our customers want to check their systems to verify that their runtime is sufficient. However, consistently performing these calibrations can significantly decrease the life expectancy of your APC battery. It is also important to remember that a UPS is not designed for constant deep discharges. We do not recommend using your APC Smart-UPS/Back-UPS as a portable power supply that is repeatedly discharged/recharged (like on a portable equipment cart). These units are designed for emergency use during unexpected power outages or momentary loss of power.
3. Storage: Do not store APC batteries for extended periods of time. New batteries/units should be stored for no more than 6 months from date of purchase, as they ship from the factory at approximately 80% charge. After this period, the battery should be used or it will lose a great deal of its charge . It is not advisable to store batteries that have already been in use. Extended storage without periodic charging can result in shortened life expectancy and erratic battery performance.
Temperature also plays a large part in battery degradation during storage:
- If the ambient temperature during storage is - 15°C to + 30°C (+ 5°F to + 86°F), perform a full recharge cycle at least every six months.
- In environments where the ambient temperature is + 30°C to + 45°C (+ 86°F to + 113°F), perform a full recharge cycle at least every three months.
4. Load: As the load increases on your UPS, the runtime decreases. It is not recommended that the load exceed 80 percent of the UPS unit’s rated capacity. In the event of a power failure, a UPS loaded to full capacity will discharge the battery very quickly and there is a potential that the life expectancy of the battery will be significantly reduced.
5. Battery chemical reaction: As the VRLA (AGM) battery ages, a chemical reaction called "sulfation".
This leads to:
- longer charging time than normal
- excessive heat build-up leading to "boil out"
- shorter running times between charges
- dramatically shorter battery life
6. Battery replacement: since VRLA batteries end of life is five (5) years, it is always advisable to replace the UPS battery not longer than five (5) years to prevent the risk of possible hydrogen sulfide gas emission.
7. It is recommended to update the UPS firmware to the latest version to ensure all battery related improvements are available on the UPS system. Refer to FA164737 for updating the UPS firmware.
What is the process for ordering a Masterpact NW or NT circuit breaker?
Product Line:
Circuit Breakers
Resolution:
Masterpact circuit breakers cannot be ordered by catalog number. A Schneider distributor or sales office must enter the order via the online product selector in My Schneider, SE Advantage, or Quote to Cash.
Information they need includes the certification standard (UL, ANSI, IEC), fixed or drawout, ampacity, AIR required, trip unit functions or type, accessories, connectors, and other customer specifications.
The attached decoder will assist in breaking down a catalog number to its component parts. With knowledge of the breaker's construction it will be possible to use the Q2C or SE Advantage product selector to select, quote, and order the breaker. DO NOT try to build a catalog number using the decoder. A number generated using the decoder will be prone to error due to possibly selecting components and features which are mutually exclusive, and the number will have no value for quotation or ordering even if valid.
Required information for placing an order can be found on the attached RFQ (Request for Quote) or RFQ - DC for DC rated Masterpacts.

Power wires installation for AC drives
Product Line:
Altivar drives
Environment:
All
Cause:
Installation
Resolution:
Good wiring practice requires the separation of control wiring from power wiring. Power wiring to the motor must have the maximum possible separation from all other power wiring, whether from the same drive controller or other drive controllers. Do not run power and control wiring, or multiple power wiring, in the same conduit. This separation reduces the possibility of coupling electrical transients from power circuits into control circuits or from motor power wiring into other power circuits.
Use of special shielded cables does not reduce or eliminate the need for cable separation.
Please refer to the installation documents for more information.

InF fault causes on the ATS48 softstarter.
Product line:
Altistart 48, ATS48
Environment:
All models, all serial number
Cause:
InF displayed on the unit.
Resolution:
InF is an Internal fault. Try disconnecting the Control Voltage from CL1,CL2 terminals to see if the fault will reset.
This fault appears if the control board cannot determine the soft starts power rating from the information stored in the EEPROM memory chip on the power board.
Possible causes are:
- Loose ribbon cable connection on the Power board or the Control Board. Try remove the control board, check the plugs and pins. Reseat the control board back in place.
A few cases were observed in the field where the ribbon connector got loose due to vibration and caused this InF fault. The ribbon cable has to be reseated to fix the problem.
- The 24VDC is saturated. Remove all connections to +24 terminal and then measure the voltage.
- SCR is shorted. Check Resistance across each SCR.
- If another ATS48 unit is available, try swapping control boards to confirm if the issue stays with the board or the soft start.
- Power rating not recognized. Replace the Power board and/or Control board.

Resolution:
For PID setup see FAQ FA230136.
PID SLEEP WAKEUP can be activated by setting F256 [Time limit low spd]
Setting this function to 0 disables this function.
The range of this function is between 0 and 600 seconds. 0 deactivate this function.
If parameter F256 is activated and if the drive operates continuously at [Low limit frequency] (LL) for a time period equal to the setting of F256, the drive will ramp the motor to a stop. While the motor is stopped, “LStP” will flash on the drive
embedded display terminal.
When the speed reference to the drive exceeds the low speed level LL+F391, the drive will accelerate the motor to the new speed
reference.

What is the altitude derating for a TeSys D-Line contactor?
Product Line:
Digest 177 Section 18 : Contactors and Starters, IEC
Environment:
North American Products
Resolution:
The contactors are fully rated up to 3000 meters. Following are derating multipliers for altitudes above 3000 meters for both voltage and current:
Voltage
3500m x 0.90
4000m x 0.80
4500m x 0.70
5000m x 0.60
Current
3500m x 0.92
4000m x 0.90
4500m x 0.88
5000m x 0.86
For example, an LC1D80 at 5000 meters:
- The maximum rated operational voltage is 1,000V (IEC947-4) and 690V (UL/CSA). At 5000 meters it becomes 1000V x 0.6 = 600V (IEC947-4) and 690V x 0.6 = 414V (UL/CSA).
- The maximum rated operational AC3 current is 80A. At 5000 meters it becomes 80A x 0.86 = 68A.

Cause:
Field assembling a reversing IEC contactor
Resolution:
Use the LAD9R1V kit for mechanical and electrical interlocking or use the LAD9R1 kit for mechanical interlocking without electrical interlocking. Both include power connections
Unfortunately DCDALCIP250-2 are not DALI2 certified
There is no certainty that it will work, because there were no tests for bus power supplies before DALI-2.
DALI devices (switches and sensors) are a big risk. There is a big chance both our switches/sensors and DALI2 devices will clash. The switches/sensors use the extended DALI range but this is not part of DALI2. If DALI2 devices use this same range there could be comms issues.
