How can you change the maximum speed on the ATV31 or ATV312 drives so that the motor can operate above 60Hz?

Issue:
How can the motor operate above 60Hz in the ATV31 or ATV312 drives?

Product Line:
ATV31 ATV312

Environment:
All

Cause:
Changing high speed / max frequency

Resolution:
Parameter HSP determines the maximum speed the drive can operate.  Parameter tFr determines the maximum value that HSP can be adjusted.

By default, tFr is set to 60Hz.  When changing the Motor Frequency - bFr this changes tFr to 72Hz.

To increase the maximum speed above 72Hz - Go to the drc menu and Set parameter tFr.  This can be adjusted up to 500Hz.  After saving the change, go to the SEt menu > HSP and adjust up to the desired speed.

If your motor is a specialty motor that is rated for a frequency other than 50Hz. or 60Hz. such as a 300Hz. rated spindle motor, change parameter FrS under the DRC menu to match the rated frequency of the motor.

Do power wires need to be installed in separate conduits for AC drives?

Issue:
Power wires installation for AC drives

Product Line:
Altivar drives

Environment:
All

Cause:
Installation

Resolution:
Good wiring practice requires the separation of control wiring from power wiring. Power wiring to the motor must have the maximum possible separation from all other power wiring, whether from the same drive controller or other drive controllers. Do not run power and control wiring, or multiple power wiring, in the same conduit. This separation reduces the possibility of coupling electrical transients from power circuits into control circuits or from motor power wiring into other power circuits.
Use of special shielded cables does not reduce or eliminate the need for cable separation.
Please refer to the installation documents for more information.

Which Citect driver is recommended to communicate with the S7-1500 PLC?

Summary
There are a few Citect drivers that will work with the S7 1500 PLC, including PSDIRECT and some of the S7 driver range. The recommended driver is the PSDIRECT driver.

Situation

  • Citect SCADA/AVEVA Plant SCADA
  • S7-1500 PLC

Actions
The driver we recommend using to communicate with the S7-1500 PLC is the PSDIRECT driver. PSDirect driver can be downloaded from the Citect website. This driver works in conjunction with a backend driver "Siemens Industrial Ethernet" which can be downloaded from the ProSCADA website mentioned below. There is more information about this in the following links.

Information and links to the drivers:

http://www.proscada.com/Citect.htm

Configuration information:

http://www.proscada.com/DOC/PSDIRECT_Driver_Specification_2.6.pdf

This driver is a paid driver, meaning you can test out the demo version but will need to purchase a license for the full version.

Why is there a voltage present at the terminals of the open contact of an IHP digital time clock.?

The new generation programmable time switches (CCT15720, CCT15721, CCT15722, CTT15723, CCT15850, CCT15851,CCT15852, CCT15853, CCT16650 and CCT15652) integrate the O-crossing technique. This is an electronic procedure enabling the circuit to be opened at zero current, which enables the electromechanical contact to be operated off-load.

This is used to avoid the inrush currents of certain loads, particularly lighting.

This solution involves a low leakage current traveling through the electronics which generates residual voltage at the contact terminals, even when open. This can cause problems when very low loads (small relays, LEDs, etc.) are operated, as the receiver may be "held on" by this spurious voltage.

Note:
For this type of application (low load), a conventional electromechanical programmable time switch should be used.

Are the D-Line contactors rated to break DC voltages?

Issue:
Can the TeSys D line be used to control DC loads?

Product Line:
Tesys D contactors

Environment:
Products sold and used in the United States

Cause:
 DC power circuit

Resolution:

Yes, 75 VDC (125 VDC for D115 & D150) per pole which means that through a four pole device breaking 300 VDC is possible by wiring all four power poles in series. However, be aware that the device current ratings will differ according to the number of poles in series and the type of application.

Devices are suitable but not UL Listed for DC applications.

More information on their DC ratings can be found in the current TeSys Motor Control and Protection Compentns catalog: https://www.schneider-electric.us/en/download/document/MKTED210011EN/

What is the DC Bus Voltage Threshold at which the Brake IGBT operates in Altivar 71 Drive powered with 220VAC or 415VAC 3 Phase.

The Altivar 71 Drive Braking IGBT operates when the value of DC Bus Voltage is higher than the DC Bus Threshold Voltage OBR. When the value of the DC Bus Voltage is lower than the threshold voltage (Unom_max + 10%), the Braking IGBT/Transistor is switched off.

The Voltage Threshold Values for a Drive working on 220VAC or 415VAC, 3Phase is provided in the attachment.

Note:

OBR is the threshold point where the Braking Transistor switches ON and Unom_max + 10% is the threshold point where the Braking Transistor switches OFF.

How do you change the ATV61 BACnet device name?

Issue:
BACnet device name change

Product Line:
ATV61 drives with VW3A3315 or VW3A3319 BACnet option card.

Environment:
ATV61 drives with BacNet option card

Cause:
The object name that holds the device name can not be modified and always is ATV61.

Resolution:
The ATV61 Bacnet cards (VW3A3315 or VW3A3319) produced after November 2014 have Firmware version V1.1ie09.
This version automatically assigns the device name to ATV61, followed by the 3 digit address set by the DIP switches on the option card (called the MAC address).
As long as there are no duplicate addresses, there will not be any duplicate names.

Prior to this firmware release, it was not possible to change the device name for the ATV61.
For older versions,  the workaround is to assign a device name directly to the drive via the 7 [Display Config] -- 7.1 [User parameters] -- [device Name].
This name will appear in the BACnet controller under Deivce Object Type -- "descripition".  Please check the attached example screen capture.

Does third party equipment exist to test the AFCI to determine that it is functioning properly?

Product Line:
Arc Fault Circuit Breakers

Resolution:
No. So-called AFCI testers are on the market, but they are not UL listed for testing the function of a CAFI/AFI circuit breaker. UL 1436 refers to them as "indicators" rather than testers, and Square D does not endorse them or recommend their use. They are subject to error in the form of giving a false negative result.

The UL approved method of testing an AFCI circuit breaker is to press the push-to-test button when installed in an energized load center or panel. This test injects a signal into the AFCI sensor that looks like an arc to the AFCI. A properly functioning AFCI will trip when the test button is pushed as long as the panel is energized and the neutral pigtail/plug on neutral connection is made to the neutral bar.

Paragraph 31.8.1 of the UL 1436 standard requires the AFCI indicator markings or instructions to effectively state that the test button on the AFCI circuit breaker demonstrates proper operation.

What can cause the InF fault in the Altivar 31 and Altivar 312 drives?

Issue:
InF fault on the Altivar 31 and ATV312 drives.

Product Line:
Altivar 31 and ATV312 drives

Environment:
All

Cause:
Internal fault

Resolution:
InF indicates an internal fault.
It can occur if there are loose connections inside the drive or if the drive is subjected to electromagnetic interference.  Check the line voltage to the drive.
Also, check the voltages on the control terminals, +10 to COM and 24V to COM.  It has been observed that improper wiring of the inputs or external potentiometer can overload the internal power supplies of the drive. This may result in InF fault.
Incorrect connections on the RJ45 ModBus/CANopen port can also cause this.  Verify wiring, particularly to pin 7 (10VDC supply for external keypad).
