What is the difference between the 31Cap and 31LCDA?

The 31CAP is a load correction device which consists of a "Capacitor only" to help 2 wire products achieve minimum load levels. The 31LCDA has circuitry built in to the device to enable it to correct minor compatibility issues found between dimmers and LED lights for example slight flickering when dimmed at a higher level.

31CAP - Increases minimum load.

31LCDA - Assists with compatibility issues.

What to do when C-Bus dimmer channel will not turn off ?

- Initially check that the programming is correct.

- If using LED lights, the LED may stay on when the channel is off, this is due to the leakage current being enough to power the LED, use of a 31LCDA may resolve this issue.

- If using Halogen and  the channel will not turn off, there may be damage to the electronics on this channel - Electricians only to perform this check, disconnect the Active's , Neutral and Earth from the unit, remove the cable for the load on that channel then with a multimeter check between the Neutral and that suspect channel output, if you see a low resistance the Triac has shorted.

- Advise not to use this channel and label as faulty, other channels on this dimmer should still be ok to use as per normal, alternatively you could return this unit for a quote on repair, note a repair may not be possible.

Is there a product available to stop LED flickering?

If you are experiencing flickering LED loads when dimming to low levels the 31LCDA has the potential to reduce and/ or remove the flickering. It is important to note that this device isn't gauranteed to remove flickering, it is designed to help with compatibility. If you dont achieve removal of flickering it is possible to stack a total of 3, 31LCDA's in parallel. If you are still experiencing issues once you have placed 3 in parallel your LED loads may just be incompatible and replacement of the LED loads may be necessary.

Some of the key features are:
  • 450W maximum load.
  • Potential removal of flickering.
  • Indoor use only.
  • Operating temperature 0°-65°C.
  • 220-240V A.C. typical, 50Hz only.
  • Dimensions 30mm (W) X 20mm (H) X 10mm (D).
  • Flylead length approx. 95mm

What type of LED's can be used on C-Bus Dimmers?

Firstly you will need to confirm whether your C-Bus system contains C-Bus Leading Edge Dimmers or C-Bus Universal Dimmers, You may need to consult with your EcoXpert in Light and Room Control which one(s) you have if unsure.

The general recommendations for LED compatibility with C-Bus Dimmers is as follows
1) Ensure your LED's have a dedicated LED Driver (electronic transformer) that supports your C-Bus Dimmer type
2) Bench test that the LED Driver is of good quality and works as expected at your site
3) C-Bus Dimmer channels require >25W of load if less is connected to a specific channel that channel will require the addition of a 31LCDA (Load Corrective Device)

4) If the dimming range of the LED fittings is specified by the manufacturer - the installer can programmer the Min/Max settings of the C-Bus Dimming channel to match the LED fittings dimming range.

Note:
C-Bus Leading Edge Dimmers will require LED's which have electronic transformers (LED Driver) which support Leading Edge AC phase control dimming (as noted in the compatible loads section of the installation manual)

C-Bus Universal Dimmers will require LED's which have electronic transformers (LED Driver) which supports Trailing Edge AC phase control dimming (as noted in the compatible loads section of the installation manual).
Although Universal Dimmers can support leading OR trailing edge AC phase control dimming it needs to be exclusively one or the other (NOT BOTH). As such LED Drivers which note LE/TE LED Driver are NOT suitable for the Universal Dimmer.

IMPORTANT: Clipsal by Schneider Electric & Schneider Electric DO NOT make LED's which are compatible with C-Bus NOR can we recommend specific LED Drivers for your C-Bus Dimmer type as LED Dimming and Driver technology is continually changing. The above is a guideline to assist you choose a compatible LED with dedicated LED Driver that supports your dimmer in question. As noted above please have your EcoXpert in Light and Room Control bench test LED Fittings and LED Driver for suitability on your C-Bus Network.
