Cause:
The VFD will not run when given a run command is activated?
Resolution:
Troubleshooting Enclosed VFD with HOA, Test/Normal and AFC/OFF/BYPASS switch. Terminal 24 is the neutral for the 120 V supply.
If NST occurs only when STO and LI3 are used together as STO input, and not when STO is standalone, refer to the points below,
1. The random NST is not linked to STO/DI3 but caused by EMC perturbation on the 24V supplied STO and or DI3 (if external 24V is used for STO/DI3), or P24 is not completely tighten to STO /DI3 inputs.
For example, if STO input is connected to external 24V, and this 24V fails ( for EMC reason, or 24V supplied to lot of device).
If it fails for a time of 100µs for example, and then external 24V come back to normal level, you will not see STO state on drive but NST , because LI1 is still enabled (even if TCT=Level).
On this case you can have a random NST or SAFF. The hardware time detection of STO state by STO input is 20µs.
- You should check by oscilliscope the signal (STO and or DI3 signal).
- See more information for ATV320 on pdf attached.
2. If used a device with OSSD which is not compatible with STO.
The solution with ATV320 is to use OSSD feature not wired to STO but with LI3+LI4 or LI5+LI6 (STO and L3PW are not compatible):
Then set LIrt parameter :
Current used by the STO input is around 20mA. Check the equipment connected to STO & DI3, that provide enough current to both inputs.
Test to supply STO & DI3 with internal 24Vdc of ATV320. If there is no issue with internal 24V of ATV320 , this can confirm the hypothesis of limited 24V in safety device.
The external 24V supply or safety output must be stable voltage and the most important, the cable used for STO & DI3 " MUST BE SHIELD".
1581 is not the general password to enter in the safety configuration. But a password to allow reset of safety password.
If you enter 1581 from the configure button you will have error message and that is normal.
To use the 1581 password you need to use the reset password button.
Enter here the 1581 and validate the safety password erasing.
Now you can go on "configure" button and it will ask you a new password to open the safety configuration.
How can the motor operate above 60Hz in the ATV31 or ATV312 drives?
Product Line:
ATV31 ATV312
Environment:

How do I configure the Pressure or PI [PID Regulator] control configuration in the ATV312?
Product Line:
ATV312 ALtivar 312
Environment:
All model numbers
Cause:
Activating PID control
Resolution:
Several factory default functions are incompatible with PI control so they must first be deactivated before PI control can be set up.
First, go to the FUN menu and turn off the Summing and un-assign summing inputs.
From the FUn- menu, SAI submenu, make sure SA2 and SA3 are both set to NO (by default SA2 is set to AI2).
Then go to FUN menu and turn off the Preset Speed function.
Go to FUn- menu, PSS submenu, set PS4 to NO (default is LI4) and then set PS2 to NO (default is LI3).
You will not be able to set PS2 to No until after PS4 had been changed to No, so be sure to do it in the order listed.
Then you should have access to the PI Submenu.
Set PI parameters:
FUn - PI - PIF = AIx where x is the analog input for the PID feedback - Typically AI3 if the feedback signal is a mA input or AI1 if the signal is DC Voltage.
FUn - PI - PII = YES for internal setpoint adjustment
FUn - PI - rPI = reference setpoint as a % of the feedback full range
Example: Transducer is a 0-120 PSI sensor and the customer wants to maintain 60 PSI....The rPI parameter would be set to 50% (half of the sensor range.
If the setpoint was 80PSI then the rPI parameter would be set to 67% (80psi/120psi=.667 or 67%)
Also consider:
FUn - PI - PIC = YES to reverse the PID correction so that a low feedback results in a slower VFD speed to correct
Sleep/Wake function by setting SEt - tLS = low speed timeout and PI - rSL = wake threshold

What are the things to consider in selecting the braking resistors for Altivar drives?
Product Line:
All Altivar Drives
Environment:
All
Cause:
Needs to know if the factors to consider in selecting the braking resistor for Altivar drives
Resolution:
1.) Resistance - Choosing a too low resistance may damage the drive. Too high and it's not as effective as a brake. That's because higher resistance means we will get lower current from the drive. Lower resistance means higher currents and too high current can damage the braking IGBT in the drive.
2.) Watts - Higher wattage means more durable braking resistor.
Step 1
For Modbus Serial , FR1 à Integrated Modbus
And for Modbus TCP , FR1 à Com Card
Step 2
To separate the Start/Stop command to the speed reference , please change control mode configuration CHCF to Separate/IO profile,
CHCF à Separate (sequential method)
CHCF à I/O Profile (allows to write to the command register of the drives in bits)
Step 3
Please check CD1 is set to terminals,
CD1 à Terminals (by default)

Then all three LED's will be flashing at the same time and the programming can be changed. When programming is finished, push and hold the ESC button again for 2s to enter into Local Operation again.
To switch back into Remote mode, push and hold the Mode button for 3s. Note - some programming is reset to factory defaults if you switch between Local and Remote. The drive is intended to be used for Local or Remote, not Local and Remote

EPF2 fault on ATV32 or ATV320 when using Ethernet.
Product Line:
ATV32/ATV320
Environment:
All
Cause:
FDR detected fault
IP address duplication detected fault
Resolution:
First check the FDR on the Ethernet IP card is deactivated. In case the FDR is activated, that will explain the "EPF2" fault. The reason is that the Drive is waiting for a configuration from PLC, but PLC doesn't answer once the timeout is reached. This causes the drive to trip in "EPF2".
The second reason for "EPF2" fault is the range of IP address. In case of IP address 192.0.0.x and Sub net mask of 255.255.255.0 can cause "EPF2". Change the range of the IP address.
Additionally, an incorrect configuration of the drive can cause this fault when using Assemblies other than 100 and 101. Drive must be configured as follows:
- Ref 1= Communications card
- Profile= Separate controls
- CMD switching= C312
- CMD channel 1= Communication card
- CMD channel 2= Terminal control
- Ref 2 Switching= C313
- Ref 2 Channel= AI1 or AI2

Would like to know if you can supply a VFD with a generator
Environment:
All series
Product Line:
Variable Frequency Drives
Resolution:
The generator must deliver the starting current with the minimum variation of the voltage and frequency, in all cases within the tolerance written in the Altivar catalog.
The power of the generators depends also on the acceleration ramp and the current limitation set in the ATV.
The current harmonics can overheat the generator windings because the RMS current is higher as compared to a sinusoidal current. Because of that, a line reactor is helpful. Ask also the manufacturer of the generator if there are integrated filters and to know the maximum harmonic distortion.
The bandwidth of the generator voltage regulation has to be adapted to not take into account the voltage drop due to the current harmonics.
Generally for the generator, 2 times the motor power is enough.
The generator power can be decreased (optimized) if the cycles of the application are well known and if it is sure it will not change in the future.

Reset the password of the Embedded Ethernet Modbus TCP webserver
Resolution:

ATV600 series Firmware < V1.5: The default User ID and password is: ADMIN
ATV600 drives with Firmware V1.5 or higher no longer support ADMIN as a default password. The password is now unique to the drive and has to be looked up in the webserver submenu 8.7.
ATV900 series implemented the password change beginning with V2.1.
ATV340 E implemented this change with V1.6.
NOTE: The password is not shown unless the drive has an IP address assigned (either through DHCP server or fixed IP settings).
The default User ID remains Admin (not case sensitive).
There has been an additional cyber security update to the drives that requires the default password to be changed on first connection via Ethernet (Webpage or SoMove).
This was implemented in V3.3 for ATV600/ATV900 and in V3.2 for ATV340 E.
This enhancement means you will be required to enter the default password (available on the keypad) and then will be required to enter a new password to access the drive.
Password policies can be modified using SoMove or from the Webserver.
It is possible to disable this cybersecurity function from the keypad or via SoMove/webserver but caution should be used before doing so, since this can compromise the security of the system.
SoMove connections via the Modbus port are not impacted.
The actual value does not match the analog output of the drive.
Product Line:
Altivar Machines
Environment:
All models and serial numbers
Cause:
The most common cause is that the maximum frequency (tFr) is not set the same as the high speed (HSP) setting.
Resolution:
The analog output is based off of the maximum frequency setting. The default maximum frequency is set at 20% above the standard motor frequency (bFr). If the bFr is 60 the tFr is 72. Changing tFr will cause the analog output to match the actual value.
