SCF4 fault on ATV12 drives
Product Line:
Altivar ATV12
Environment:
All
Cause:
ATV12 drive is powering up with an SCF4 fault.
Resolution:
SCF4 means IGBT short circuit fault.
Possible issues: Internal power component short circuit detected at power on. The drive may need to be replaced if the fault is coming up on power up. Check for any exploded/burnt electrical components on the drive. Also try running the drive without the motor leads connected and see if the fault persists.
A static check can be performed on the drive:
Checking The Input and Output Diode Bridges
This test is done using a digital multi-meter in diode test mode to check that the transistors and diodes are not short-circuited.
ALL TESTS ARE TO BE PERFORMED WITH ALL SOURCES OF POWER REMOVED FROM THE DRIVE
- Instrument
- Use Digit-Meter with a diode scale
- Measurement
- Locate PA+ and PC- input on drive power terminals (should be close to your power connection terminals)
- Set meter to diode scale
- To measure Input diodes
- Place black on positive bus (PA+) and red on L1
- Get reading and then move to L2 and then L3
- When done swap red and black probes and measure again between (PA+) to L1...L3
- Readings should be OL in one direction and a low voltage reading the other way (Example 0.3v)
- To measure Output IGBTs
- Place black on positive bus (PA+) and red on T1
- Get reading and then move to T2 and then T3
- When done swap red and black probes and measure again between (PA+) to T1...T3
- Readings should be OL in one direction and a low voltage reading the other way (Example 0.3v)
Readings outside of the ranges given would point to damage in the drive.
The ATV12 drives are not repairable so the product should be replaced.
If readings are within range, the drive is likely fine and the motor and cables should be checked for phase to phase or phase to ground shorts.

Reset the password of the Embedded Ethernet Modbus TCP webserver
Resolution:
[My preferences] [Webserver]
ATV600 series Firmware < V1.5: The default User ID and password is: ADMIN
ATV600 drives with Firmware V1.5 or higher no longer support ADMIN as a default password. The password is now unique to the drive and has to be looked up in the webserver submenu 8.7.
ATV900 series implemented the password change beginning with V2.1.
ATV340 E implemented this change with V1.6.
NOTE: The password is not shown unless the drive has an IP address assigned (either through DHCP server or fixed IP settings).
The default User ID remains Admin (not case sensitive).
There has been an additional cyber security update to the drives that requires the default password to be changed on first connection via Ethernet (Webpage or SoMove).
This was implemented in V3.3 for ATV600/ATV900 and in V3.2 for ATV340 E.
This enhancement means you will be required to enter the default password (available on the keypad) and then will be required to enter a new password to access the drive.
Password policies can be modified using SoMove or from the Webserver.
It is possible to disable this cybersecurity function from the keypad or via SoMove/webserver but caution should be used before doing so, since this can compromise the security of the system.
SoMove connections via the Modbus port are not impacted.

Issue:
ATV12 OLC
Product Line:
Altivar 12
Environment:
All models
Cause:
Customer is doing 6 cycles per minute (start/stop) and noticed that after 3 cycles the drive will show "OLC"
Resolution:
OLC is process overload.
Check the process and the parameters of the drive.
Go to I_O- menu:
Parameter tOL is the Application Overload time delay, adjustable range 0-100sec.
Parameter LOC is the Application Overload threshold, adjustable range 70-150% of Motor rated current nCr.
This function can be used to stop the motor in the event of an application overload. This is not a motor or drive thermal overload. If the motor current exceeds the Application Overload threshold LOC, an Application Overload time delay tOL is activated. Once this time delay tOL has elapsed, if the current is still greater than the overload threshold LOC -10%, the drive will stop running and display OLC, Process overload.
Overload detection is only active when the system is in steady state (speed reference reached).
tOL = 0 will deactivate application overload detection.
