Create your perfect bedroom retreat

Our bedrooms are very personal spaces in our homes. They are where we rest and recharge at the end of each day, and where we prepare for the new day ahead.

Here, we show you how to create bedrooms that everyone will love coming home to.

Tailor your space

Our bedrooms reflect us – from the wall colours to the choice of bedding and artwork (this is especially true in teenage years!). Bedrooms are also crucial to how well we rest, so careful planning is a must.

Thinking about how everyone might use their bedrooms, and how they want them to look are the first steps in the Electric Home Design for this room. Whether it’s your own room, or for teens and small children, there are elements that are useful in every bedroom, like bedside lights, dimmers, USB fast chargers, temperature control, and even blind controllers. 

Then, you could consider data points with cabled internet for kids’ homework and entertainment. Younger children might like a night light, while teens could get creative with smart LED strip lights or a feature neon sign.

Remember, walk-in wardrobes are part of the bedroom layout too and can be enhanced by clever lighting, motion sensors and extra power points for charging and electrical accessories.

Bedroom must-haves

Lighting is an important part of any bedroom. Dimmers for ceiling and bedside lights are a great way to create instant ambience, and to shift the mood in children’s bedrooms from playtime to bedtime.

Power points with built-in USB charging ports are perfect next to bedside tables, and an Iconic Smart Shelf charging station helps to keep devices out of the way. These are great for kids’ bedrooms too as they’re large enough to charge tablets.

A wardrobe that works

A few clever additions to your walk-in wardrobe can really enhance the space.

Add a motion sensor to activate lights when you walk in, which is handy if you’re carrying clothes or other items to put away. Create a mini charging station by placing power points with USB chargers next to a shelf. Your phone, e-reader, smart watch and other devices can stay tidily out of sight while charging.

For a luxe feel, use LED strip lights for a soft glow under cupboards and shelving, or around a full-length mirror.

Rooms that grow

Children grow up fast, so it pays to think ahead if planning a bedroom for younger family members.

Little ones will love a night light that casts a reassuring glow. The Iconic Night Walk Sensor Light activates with motion for late night trips to the bathroom, or you can use it as an all-night night light.

With growing demand on home WiFi, consider adding data points with cabled internet to kids’ rooms so they’re set-up for reliable and secure online access when they’re older.

More homes are installing cabled internet now as working from home becomes more common and more devices are online simultaneously for content streaming or online gaming.

A smart sanctuary with Wiser
